On-going Acting Classes
Weekly classes in New York City focus on acting technique, performance and scene study. Classes are led by artistic director, Shauna Kanter. Voicetheatre classes draw from an eclectic range of techniques from Stanislavski's Method to Michael Chekhov's acting techniques, to Anne Bogart and Mary Overlie's Viewpoints.
Level I
The Voice and Body of the Actor
A series of vocal and physical exercises that enable the actor to free and strengthen their body and voice. Combining visualization with specific technical skill these exercises release the emotional life, vocal power, physical expression, thought and spontaneity of the actor. Breath work enables the actor to release tension blocks in each part of the body, to connect to deeper feelings and to play moment to moment without self doubt.
Group improvisation is included to bring about a sense of play and joy.
Duration: Monthly Registration
Level II
The Tools of the Actor
The awakening of the actors' body, imagination and voice. Our investigation is concerned with allowing the actor to experience the emotional demands of the life of their character, to stay in the moment, to connect with their own experiences and uniqueness as well as to develop the ability to listen.
Emphasis is on the physical expression of the actor's body and is combined with the emotional inner life of each character and the theatrical world in which each play takes place. Character and period work and varying directorial styles are addressed. Script analysis, structure and breakdown of text is included. What is the most daring, theatrically intersting choice and why and constructive problem solving rehearsal techniques are examined in this scene study class.
